43 grade is widely used for a variety of applications. The construction industry uses this grade extensively.
The 53 grade is strong enough to match the demands of very strong concrete. Chemically, OPC 33, OPC 43 and OPC 53 grades are the same, but higher-grade cements are much stronger and longer-lasting. According to BIS, PPC has the same compression strength as OPC 33 grade at present.

Which grade of cement is better, grade 43 or grade 53?
In terms of strength, grade 43 and grade 53 cement indicate the strongest strength attained after 28 days. There are two grades of cement that are most commonly used and their differences are –
- The strength of Grade 53 cement is 530kg/sq.cm. after 28 days, whereas Grade 43 cement is 430kg/sq. cm. after 28 days.
- Construction projects like bridges, roads, multistory buildings, and cold weather concrete require Grade 53 cement. Grade 43 cement is the most widely used cement for general construction.
- Cement of grade 53 reaches high strengths very quickly and sets in a very short time. After 28 days, it doesn’t gain much strength. Initial strength of Grade 43 cement is low, but its strength increases with time.
- A cement of Grade 53 sets quickly and releases higher heat of hydration, while a cement of Grade 43 releases very little heat of hydration. Consequently, micro-cracks can form in Grade 53 Cement and proper curing is necessary to prevent them.
- A grade 53 cement is a little more expensive than a grade 43 cement.
Use of OPC and PPC Cement
With its many applications in the construction industry, PPC is considered to be a future product. It can withstand harsh environmental conditions. As masonry mortar and plastering, hydraulic structures, and marine structures, they can be reliably used in construction.
